Percy Sledge belted out his famed hit “When a Man Loves A Woman,“ on the stage of the Montgomery Convention Center, wowing the crowd at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame Induction and Awards ceremony, who leapt to their feet in a standing ovation for Sledge.
Sledge, a 2005 Hall of Fame Inductee Wow Power Leveling, is a native of Leighton, Ala.
Just moments before, the crowd offered another standing ovation to Randy Owen’s performance of “Mountain Music“ and his new song, “Braid My Hair,“ which he told the crowd he was performing live for the first time.
The song, to be included on Owen’s upcoming solo album,Wow Gold is told from the perspective of a little girl who is ill. Owen said he received the song after two songwriters sent it to Owen’s mother.
He told the crowd he was so moved by it that he immediately decided to record it.
